The Chief Executive Officer of the Belleville Chamber of Commerce says a scam email is being circulated to its members.
Jill Raycroft is warning members to be on the lookout for an email from Ellen Smith.
In the email Smith offers to sell members a Chamber membership list.
The Belleville Chamber of Commerce has an online directory that can be accessed by members and can provide an
electronic or printed version of the directory to members that want it, however, the Chamber has not had a printed directory since 2016.
Raycroft says members should ignore and delete the email from “Ellen.”
Below is an example of the fraudulent email to be on the watch for.
From: Ellen Smith <ellen@leaddigi.info>
Sent: Saturday, January 13, 2024 8:53 AM
Subject: Your Business Name
Hi YourBusinessName,
I’m following up to confirm if you are interested in acquiring the Mailing List/Distribution List.
· Belleville Chamber of Commerce 2024, Ontario, Canada
· 1,000+ Contacts
Let me know if you are interested to acquire this list, so that I can send you the fee & additional details.
