Northumberland OPP are reporting the successful rescue of a man who fell through the ice on the Trent River on Thursday.
Police, Fire and Ambulance responded to a call to the Bradley Bay area after a man who was walking his dog fell through the ice into the water. The man’s dog ventured onto the ice and fell through first, and the man fell in attempting to rescue the dog.
An officer from the Campbellford detachment was the first responder on the scene, and was able to pull the man out of the frigid water. The man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The dog did not survive.
Police are reminding the public that the local ice isn’t safe.
