Prince Edward County Council has approved the rezoning of a North Marysburgh property to allow the construction of a new resort, despite protests from area residents, during Wednesday’s council meeting.
Five advance registered deputations and many more commenters came to the meeting to speak against the rezoning of the property at 2353 County Road 7. Residents presented a long list of concerns about the development, with some of the common recurring complaints including that the resort was out of place among the surrounding homes and farmland and that the resort would be disruptive to the people living around it.
The resort, known as TRAE, is planned to consist of a main clubhouse and event space with multiple cabins on the property to rent.
This is the second time the resort’s request for rezoning was before council, having been revised after concerns were presented with a previous plan for the property. Councillor John Hirsch spoke briefly in favor of the revised application.
“The fact of the matter is, whether we the neighbours like it or not, our official plan sanctions this and this will be a sure loss for us at the Ontario Land Tribunal if we didn’t approve it,” said Councillor Hirsch.
Council voted to approve the rezoning application 7 to 5.
