Both Trenton and Belleville are in U-Haul’s top 25 Canadian growth cities of 2023.
The U-Haul Growth Index analyzed one-way customer moves during the past year.
Trenton is number 14 on the list while Belleville sits 20th, falling from 13th last year.
U-Haul customers arriving to and departing from both communities dropped from 2022 as overall moving traffic slowed.
One-way U-Haul customers arriving in Trenton fell 8% from 2022 while departures fell 25%.
In Belleville, arriving customers fell almost 10% and departures dropped 9%.
Speaking about Trenton, Antony Grocott, U-Haul Company of Eastern Ontario president says, “People dream of owning a waterfront property and that becomes a possibility for many more people in cities like Trenton. As the cost of living in the Greater Toronto Area continues to skyrocket, people are looking for affordability. Trenton offers that affordability without losing access to the amenities of a major urban city.”
Referring to the Friendly City, Grocott says, “Belleville is a charming city that continues to attract droves of new residents. Lots of people are moving to Belleville for the friendly neighbourhoods and to escape the congestion of the Greater Toronto Area.”
