So far so good when it comes to meeting new housing targets in the City of Belleville.
As of December 21, construction had started on 268 residential units in 2023, exceeding the provincial target of 227 housing starts.
If the city meets at least 80% of its annual target it will receive money from the province’s Building Faster Fund.
And if the goal of 3,100 starts over 10 years is met, Belleville could receive around $2.4 million and there are bonuses available for exceeding the target.
Meanwhile housing starts in Kingston are almost double its target while Peterborough completed only one third of its target.
