The new year is almost upon us, and with new year’s eve celebrations comes police working to prevent impaired driving.
Officers from Belleville police and the OPP will be out in the community, conducting RIDE program checks to catch impaired drivers.
In a video shared to X, formerly Twitter, the OPP released details about impaired driving over 2023. Over the past year the OPP have laid over 10,000 charges for impaired driving, an increase of 16 per cent over 2022.
During 2023, 49 people died in drug- or alcohol-related crashes in Ontario, and nearly 400 people died in vehicle accidents in Ontario overall.
Operation Red Nose Quinte will be operating on New Year’s Eve, and offers free rides for anyone who needs it, and their vehicle, to ensure everyone makes it home safely. Your ride must start or end in either Belleville or Trenton.
