The Children’s Foundation and the YMCA of Central East Ontario will continue to work together in 2024 to ensure as many children as possible have access to the Y’s camps.
In 2023, The Children’s Foundation processed a record number of applications for its Camps of Hope program that subsidizes registration fees for children and youth to attend local camps.
With a total investment exceeding $100,000 in Hastings, Northumberland, and Prince Edward Counties, this included a $20,000 investment to send more than 75 children to YMCA camps.
And with the demand expected to climb higher in the coming year, The Children’s Foundation and YMCA Strong Communities will partner again to give qualifying families access to both subsidy programs to offset the registration fees for YMCA camp.
“A child benefits in so many ways from attending camp – and it goes much deeper than simply having fun with friends. For many children, the social interaction and mentorship stemming from camp experiences build self-esteem, leadership qualities, confidence, and resilience. Kids who attend camp make friends, make memories, and are physically active and mentally stimulated. We are proud to work alongside the YMCA to ensure that as many children as possible can attend camp. Working together to stretch donor dollars farther makes sense,” says Melanie Cressman, Executive Director of The Children’s Foundation.
The YMCA of Central East Ontario has provided more than $150,000 in subsidy and financial assistance to children and families in the region for membership, day camp and child care over the past year.
“Kids need the opportunity to be kids,” said David Allen, President and CEO of the YMCA of Central East Ontario. Our YMCA is committed to giving children the opportunity to have a safe and enjoyable experience that will change their lives while feeling a sense of belonging surrounded by positive role models. Kids don’t have a choice, the hardships and challenges facing families today should not be a barrier from participation in programs that will improve their health and physical well-being. We are proud to support and work with The Children’s Foundation and the Families they support. Together we can make a difference in the lives of more children,” said Allen.
