A Belleville teen is celebrating this Christmas season with an Emmy award.
14-year-old Maria Nash, a student at Centennial Secondary, was a winner December 17th at the Children’s and Family Emmy Awards.

She won in the category of Outstanding Younger Voice Performance in a Preschool, Children’s, or Young Teen Program.

She is the lead character Pinecone, from the Dreamworks show Pinecone and Pony, which airs on Apple TV+.
Nash tells Rock 107 that her mom enrolled her into acting classes when she was young.
“I was 5 or 6 and I had a lot of confidence issues when I was in kindergarten. My mom said, you know what we’re going to put you in these classes at Modelle. I didn’t want to do it at first, because I was scared. Kept doing it. Got my first commercial and I just kept going.”

She has also played Rachel Zane, a child version of Meghan Markle’s character in Suits, along with the character Polly in blockbuster show The Handmaid’s Tale.

A new movie she is in will be showcasing at the Sundance Film Festival next year.
“Called Out of My Mind. It’s based off a book by Sharon Draper. It’s about this girl who has cerebral palsy and it’s her story. How she navigates being in the classroom and all the challenges she faces.”
