Quinte News continues to look back at 2023.
That included a chat with the Band Council Chief for the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte.
R. Don Maracle says clean water continued to be a major focus.
“We continued working on a $40 million water line project, to install safe drinking water lines on a number of roads in our community.”
Maracle says that was not the only major infrastructure work.
“We also started construction on an $83 million, 128-bed licensed long-term care facility.”
Maracle says the tenders were higher than they anticipated, however, he says the infrastructure has gone up dramatically since the pandemic.
There was also a partial settlement to the 293 acres of the Culbertson Land Settlement, which puts control of the land back into the band’s control, along with a $31 million settlement.
A survey of residents will be done on what to do with the land.
