A family winery in Tweed has won Canada’s first gold medal for its Frontenac Rouge (Noir) grape varietal at one of North America’s most prestigious wine shows.
Potter Settlement Artisan Wines won gold this week at the San Francisco International Wine Competition.
Potter Settlement’s owner Sandor Johnson’s family pioneered the Frontenac Rouge grape to Ontario starting in 1999 and has won awards for introducing the grape.
Meanwhile, Johnson is pushing the Ontario Wine Appellation Authority to allow the Frontenac varietal to be given the VQA label which would allow the wine to be sold at LCBOs and restaurants.
