Lennox and Addington OPP are investigating a person found to be living in an abandoned house.
Just before 8 a.m. on Friday, police received a report of someone living in an abandoned house on a rural property.
The owner of the property had contacted a real estate agent to sell the abandoned house and property. When the agent arrived, they discovered someone had potentially been living in the home.
Police later arrived at the scene and confirmed belongings were in the home but no one was inside.
A 44-year-old female was later identified.
She was told by police to leave the residence.
The woman claimed that she was paying rent to a landlord in Toronto and did not realize the property belonged to someone else.
The female was said to be living in the home since November 2022.
No charges have been laid as an investigation continues.
Police are reminding residents to inspect their vacant properties regularly, or have a property manager monitor it, and post no trespassing signs around the property.
