Quinte West council will be back at work at 9 o’clock Monday morning after not being able to finish hearing from close to 20 external agencies and community organizations Thursday.
There were common themes among the external agencies such as Quinte Waste Solutions and Hastings County. All of them needed to increase their budgets substantially due to inflation.
And community organizations such as the Humane Society, the YMCA, and the National Air Force Museum were all asking for sizeable donations as they too dealt with rising costs.
Councillor Zack Card forecast very tough decisions ahead.
“That’s kind of what I’m fearful of, how much can we do, when can we do it, and what is the blowback going to be like if these numbers are
unpalatable? It’s just the worst year by a mile. All of these pressures are coming due at once.”
Below are some examples of budgets coming to council along with requests from community organizations.
Council began initial talks on its 2024 budget Wednesday with staff presenting a first draft budget with
an almost 11 per cent tax increase for the average homeowner in Quinte West.
