The County Docs program reports four new doctors are coming to Prince Edward County.
During Thursday’s Committee of the Whole meeting, Physician Recruiter Adam Hambly delivered a presentation to members of council to detail plans for the program going into 2024.
During the presentation, it was shared that they have arranged for four doctors to begin practising in Prince Edward County during 2024. The new quartet of doctors will begin practising at various points throughout the year.
Doctors Dineen and Branton are set to begin practising in January of 2024, with doctor Lee starting in September. A fourth doctor, whose name was not yet released, will begin in April.
Councillor John Hirsch was pleased with the progress in bringing more doctors to the county, suggesting that County Docs be more vocal about their successes to the wider public as well.
“You’re doing great work, and the success is perhaps better than some of us were expecting, however, the general population still thinks nothing’s happening,” said Councillor Hirsch. “And by general population, I mean those experts on Facebook who in about a dozen different community groups, almost every day comment that there are no new doctors happening.”
In order to help attract more doctors, Hambly requested an additional $100,000 in budget to fund an incentive they can offer to doctors.
After a brief debate, councillors voted to add the request to the upcoming 2024 budget deliberations.
