Benji’s Coffee Bar, located at 29 Market Street, celebrated its grand opening on Thursday.
The café, originally starting off as a Pop-Up on the Bay at Zwick’s Park in 2021, is the first business to open as part of the revitalization of the Memorial Arena into a marketplace.
Task Force Engineering Ltd. won the bid to redevelop Memorial Arena and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 99 in November 2019 but progress on the project was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first phase of redevelopment eventually began in the summer of 2023.
“We are thrilled to bring Benji’s Coffee Bar to Downtown Belleville,” Benjamin Batelaan, founder of Benji’s Coffee Bar, says in a press release.
“This grand opening is not just about a new location; it’s about creating a space where people can come together, share moments, and build connections in a safe and welcoming space.”
