There’s no way of knowing when crimes will occur so calls for service statistics don’t necessarily mean a trend can be predicted, however, crime stats looked good for the Belleville Police Service in the third quarter of this year.
The total number of reported crimes was 1,081, down 23% from the third quarter of last year.
Break and enters, at 41, were 41% lower this year and motor vehicle thefts, at 26 incidents, were down 36%.
Other crimes causing significantly fewer calls for service were assaults, sex and drug offences, uttering threats, and criminal harassment.
When it comes to homicide and attempted murder, there was one of each in the third quarter this year which was the same as in the same period in 2022.
