The three-day Eastern Canada Cup Junior hockey series is underway in Trenton and there was plenty of local input in a pair of wins by the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Team Hawerchuk.
Belleville native Corbin Roach of the Golden Hawks scored and fellow Bellevillian Trevor Hoskin had two assists in a 3-0 win over the Central Canadian Hockey League.
Hoskin and Golden Hawks forward Charlie Key scored in a 5-3 victory over the Northern Ontario Junior League.
Hoskin, who has made an NCAA commitment to Canisius College in Buffalo plays for the Cobourg Cougars. The former Quinte Red Devil is enjoying playing in his own backyard.
There are two all-star teams from each of five leagues participating including Quebec and the Maritimes.
The Eastern Canada Cup is used by Hockey Canada, CIS, NCAA and NHL scouts to identify players for the World Junior A Challenge, post secondary play and professional hockey opportunities.
Games resume at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Dunc McDonald Community Gardens.
