The Belleville Senators earned a split against the visiting Cleveland Monsters this weekend.
Angus Crookshank scored his third of the season at 1:05 of overtime to break a 1-1 tie and send the B-Sens on to a 2-1 win over Cleveland.
Crookshank also drew an assist on Egor Sokolov’s third of the year late in the first period.
Leevi Merilainen stopped 37 of 38 shots he faced, to earn his second win of the season and was named the game’s first star.
Head coach David Bell says ““They had some emotion going. I think they were ticked off at their performance from Friday, so they wanted to have a response game, and I think they did. I think it was probably, over the course of our first 11 games, the most sustained pressure we’ve had on the O-zone over and over.”
Belleville’s record is 6-0-4-1 for 13 points. They are just three points out of first in the AHL North Division.
Belleville is at Laval Wednesday night before hosting the Manitoba Moose Friday and Saturday nights.
