While the national rate rose slightly, unemployment in the Belleville Census Metropolitan Area fell significantly in October.
The local rate dropped from 9.8 per cent in September to 6.5 per cent last month.
Nationally, unemployment ticked up to 5.7 per cent last month from 5.5 per cent in September.
Statistics Canada reports the economy added 18,000 jobs.
Employment rose in the construction and information, culture and recreation sectors but declined in wholesale and retail trade as well as manufacturing.
Ontario’s rate also rose from 6 to 6.2 per cent.
