Don’t be alarmed if you see large groups of armed soldiers marching in Belleville this weekend.
Local Canadian Army Reserve members from the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment will be conducting training Saturday in Belleville, Cobourg and Peterborough.
Soldiers will march along local roadsides in uniform with their personal weapons, which will remain unloaded at all times.
As many as 30 soldiers at a time may be marching along the roads in various formations.
The exercise is being conducted in order to prepare Canadian Army Reserve members to operate in various weather conditions, and maintain fitness and stamina while carrying their equipment.
National Defence says this regular, scheduled training keeps soldiers and units ready to respond to missions in Canada like floods and wildfires, and support international stability operations with partners and allies.
Members of the public are asked to slow down and take extra caution when approaching military vehicles and personnel.
