The future of the Legion building after December 31 has become a lot more clear.
Belleville Mayor Neil Ellis tells Quinte News that the owners of the building plan to tear it down as part of the Memorial Marketplace redevelopment.
“What I’ve been told by the people at that corporation that own it, that it’s going to be torn down and used for parking in the Market Square.” Ellis tells Quinte News.
Royal Canadian Legion 99 were told by the City that there would be no renewal of the lease as the owners of the building plan to redevelop the area.
The legion is in the process of moving into the former Shrine Club building on Highland Avenue in Belleville.
The news comes as one of the first new businesses in the redeveloped marketplace opens.
Benji’s Coffee Bar opened its doors on Thursday.
The coffee shop had been part of Pop-Ups at the Bay for the last three years before opening its first permanent location.
