Chief of the Hastings Quinte Paramedic Service, Carl Bowker, presented his fall update on paramedic services in Prince Edward County at a county council meeting on Tuesday.
In the update, Bowker noted that the response time for calls in the county were quicker this year.
In 2022, Hastings Quinte Paramedics had an average response time of 12 minutes 29 seconds. This year so far, the average response time is 11 minutes 58 seconds.
It was also noted that PEC ambulances were responding more to calls in PEC. The number increased from 67% to 71% between 2022 and 2023.
In the spring of 2023, Prince Edward County council approved an additional $436,000 in ambulance service funding leading to an increase of ambulance staffing by 12 hours, 7 days a week effective July 1.
During the night shift this year, for the months of July, August and September, the average response time for Hastings Quinte Paramedics was 13 minutes 14 seconds. That is 17 seconds faster than last year’s average response time during a similar time frame.
