The World Champion 1959 Belleville McFarlands will be inducted into the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in Toronto next Thursday.
The Macs will be one of eight in this year’s class of inductees which includes Toronto Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan, athlete Perdita Felicien, curler Marlyn Bodogh and women’s hockey star Jayna Hefford.
The 1959 McFarlands represented Canada at the World Championships in Prague where they faced Russia, the U.S., Czechoslovakia, Sweden and Finland.
Former McFarlands player Red Berenson will accept the award on behalf of the team.
The 1958 Allan Cup champion and ’59 World championship teams were both inducted into the Belleville Sports Hall of Fame in 1989.
