Members of the Eastern Ontario Wardens Caucus, including Prince Edward County Mayor Steve Ferguson and Hastings County Warden Bob Mullin, paid a visit to Parliament Hill this week to present the “7 in 7” regional housing plan to federal partners.
Bay of Quinte and Hastings, Lennox and Addington MPs Ryan Williams and Shelby Kramp-Neumann were also among those at the October 17 meeting.
The meeting was sponsored by Glengarry—Prescott—Russell MP Francis Drouin.
The 7 in 7 plan proposes to build at least 28,000 housing units over seven years to address the housing shortage with 7,000 of those to be affordable units.
The EOWC is working to gain feedback from the market and has strong support from the Eastern Ontario Mayors’ Caucus, as well as the Ontario Home Builders’ Association – eastern regional group – and says it is ready to work with the federal government to tackle housing supply.
Peter Emon, EOWC Chair, says, “Coming together as government is what we need to do to solve the housing challenge. Our meeting on Parliament Hill showcased our visionary 7 in 7 Regional Housing Plan and reaffirms the EOWC’s commitment to support the goal of building housing faster for all residents. We look forward to continued discussions with our federal partners.”
