The following is a release from the City of Belleville:
The City of Belleville is encouraging residents to make trick or treating accessible for all this Halloween. The Treat Accessibly initiative aims to raise awareness of the barriers that may prevent some children from participating in Halloween festivities. Here are some steps you can take to make your trick-or-treating station accessible on Halloween night:
- Make sure the path to your trick-or-treating station is well lit.
- Clear your driveway and pathways of any obstacles.
- Park your vehicle on the street or in your garage to allow easy access.
- Set up your trick-or-treating station at the end of your driveway or in your garage.
- If your home doesn’t have a driveway, consider decorating and using the back of your vehicle to “trunk or treat.”.
Orange Accessible Trick or Treating signs can be found online and printed or are available at your local RE/MAX office at 106 North Front St. while supplies last. Residents are encouraged to contact 613-969-9907 to confirm availability. The goal is to have residents display these signs on their lawns leading up to Halloween to indicate that accessible accommodations have been made for trick or treaters.
