Brighton is looking at ways to recover money that could be lost with changes to development charges.
At Monday night’s meeting, council directed staff to prepare a report on what are called impost fees.
Currently, under new home build development charges, the municipality can collect money for a number of hard and soft services.
Mayor Brian Ostrander.
“It’s water, sewer, it’s roads, it’s library expansion, fire department growth costs, it’s parkland, multi-use facilities.”
He says under the new rules of Bill 23, only costs for physical infrastructure can be collected.
Staff will bring a report back to council on impost fees, which would be for costs of new libraries, parks, bus routes, what are known as soft services.
