The Belleville and District Shrine Club has a new home. The club held a grand opening Sunday at its new location at 160 Catharine Street, a former union hall in the city’s west end.
The Belleville Shrine club has been in existence for 78 years.
The international Shrine Club’s charitable arm is the Shriners Hospital for Sick Children, a network of 22 hospitals in Canada, the U.S., and Mexico that offers free treatment for children suffering from orthopedic injuries and conditions.
Meanwhile, the Shriners’ former location on Highland Avenue will be new home of Belleville Branch 99 of the Royal Canadian Legion.
The Legion will hold a press conference outlining details of its move to its new home Tuesday evening.
Branch 99 and its 260 members had until the end of the year to find a new location as its current building is part of the redevelopment of the area around Memorial Arena in the Downtown District.
