Three Bay of Quinte area projects will split $226,013 in provincial funding.
Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith announced the money, which is courtesy of the Rural Economic Development (RED) program, in downtown Trenton on Wednesday.
The largest chunk is going to the Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board which is receiving $149,988.
It will use the money to support destination marketing tools such as billboards, radio and video as well as add an extra employee.
As a smaller organization with a limited budget, the board currently only has four employees.
The City of Belleville will use its $51,025 to help fund a business retention and expansion program for the industrial sector.
Councillor Tyler Allsopp says manufacturing underwent significant challenges during the pandemic.
“It gives us the power to actually go out, open those lines of communications with the manufacturing sector and figure what they need to be prosperous in the future to help us build up the economy and make sure it’s more diverse and works better for everybody.”
Quinte West Manager of Economic Development & Tourism Linda Lisle says they’ll use their $25,000 for downtown revitalization in Trenton and Frankford through new Community Incentive Programs for the commercial and tourism sectors.
“We developed our Community Improvement Plan back in 2005 so obviously the dollars have changed a lot since that point in time. So we really want to market the program with new dollars.”
They plan to have the program ready this spring.
The provincial funding accounts for 50% of the total cost of each project.
