Belleville council is supporting the establishment of a national guaranteed livable income program.
Mayor Neil Ellis said such a program might go a long way toward solving a growing problem plaguing communities everywhere.
“You know a living income is geared to homelessness too, whether that research has been done (I’m not sure), but that’s something (a guaranteed living income program) that should be considered.”
A resolution from the Town of Grimsby, asking that politicians at all levels, local, provincial and federal, lobby to work together on a liveable income program was supported by council at its meeting Tuesday.
