Friday marks the beginning of Operation Impact, a joint initiative between Canadian policing partners to keep roads safe during this long weekend.
From October 6-9, police will be doing their part through robust enforcement and education regarding behaviours that put drivers, passengers and other road users at risk: impaired driving, aggressive driving, distracted driving, and driving without a seat belt.
Motor vehicle collisions kill about 2,000 Canadians, seriously injure another 10,000 people and injure about 165,000 citizens in this country each year.
This year’s campaign theme emphasizes the accountability and role each driver has to play to support traffic safety on the streets and highways in their community.
