The new Commander for 8 Wing Trenton was introduced on Thursday.
Colonel Leighton James was formally introduced in a ceremony at CFB Trenton.
Col. James takes over for Col. Leif Dahl who was permanently removed from the position following an investigation into a firearms incident at the Murray Canal in Quinte West back in August.
In a release from Canada’s National Defence, Col. James’s experience includes: disaster relief deployments, a tour in the U.S. Combined Aerospace Operations Centre in Qatar, serving as Director of the Joint Air Component Coordination Element at the Canadian Joint Operations Command, and a tour as the Commanding Officer of 8 Wing’s 424 Transport and Rescue Squadron.
“I am honoured and humbled to be chosen to Command 8 Wing/Canadian Forces Base Trenton, which is such an essential component of the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Canadian Armed Forces at large,” Col. James says in a statement.
“I am looking forward to serving and supporting our members here in Trenton, and I’m happy to be back in the Bay of Quinte. I am eager to reconnect with the community, mayors, businesses, and citizens from whom we receive such incredible support. As the hub of air mobility, I know we will continue to be very busy, and I look forward to the challenge of empowering the members of 8 Wing in the great and important work that they do.”
