Members of the Prince Edward County OPP have laid impaired driving charges over the past week.
On September 29, 2023, just before 4 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on Bond Road. Officers spoke to the driver and an approved screening device was administered. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing. Daniel Prinzen, age 26 from Prince Edward County, was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and speeding.
The driver was released from custody and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on October 25, 2023. The driver also had his vehicle impounded for a period of seven days and licence suspended for 90 days.
On October 1, 2023 shortly after 7 p.m., officers received a report of a traffic complaint involving a theft on Loyalist Parkway near Carrying Place. Officers attempted to stop a vehicle which did not stop for police. Officers continued to patrol for the vehicle and later located it in Wellington. Officers arrested the driver. An approved screening device demand was made. A subsequent search led to the seizure of a quantity of suspected cocaine. Todd Goodmurphy, age 53 from Prince Edward County, was charged with the following offences:
- Fail to stop for police
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
- Theft under $5000 – shoplifting
- Possession of a schedule one substance – cocaine
The driver was released from custody and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on October 18, 2023. The driver also had his vehicle impounded for a period of seven days and licence suspended for 90 days.
On October 3, 2023 shortly before 3 p.m., officers received a report of a traffic complaint near County Road 23 and Victoria Road. Officers located the vehicle and spoke with the driver. An approved screening device was administered and as a result, the driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing. William Lee, age 83 from Belleville, was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
The driver was released from custody and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on October 11, 2023. The driver also had his vehicle impounded for a period of seven days and licence suspended for 90 days.
