The Ontario Nurses’ Association says it is seeking more transparency from the Board of Health by filing a Freedom of Information request on the board’s finances.
“ONA is putting the Board of Health on notice that we are proceeding to seek full transparency through every avenue possible,” ONA President Erin Ariss says in a release.
“It is disgraceful that elected officials would prefer to put the health and safety of their 200,000 county residents at risk to deny a fair and respectful contract to the very nurses who have shown such dedication to their constituents. Clearly, the health and well-being of the residents they are tasked with caring for is not their priority.”
The move comes after Prince Edward County councillors John Hirsch and Kate McNaughton announced they were resigning from the board at a County council meeting on Tuesday.
Fifty public health nurses have been on strike since August.
Another approximately 70 Public Health employees members of CUPE went on strike last week, resulting in the suspension of virtually all Public Health services.
