Belleville council will support a new Nurse Practitioner in the community through its Physician Recruitment Program.
Monday, council voted to grant Nurse Practitioner Erika Kiernick $10,000 to help pay for her education and secure a commitment to practice in Belleville for at least two years.
She specializes in mental health care and just started work at Belleville General Hospital.
Mayor Neil Ellis says she will carry a caseload of 1,000 to 1,200 patients.
