A special clothing drive is geared to help workers and job seekers build their wardrobe.
The City of Belleville’s Economic Development division is hosting the clothing drive in support of META Employment Services Career Closet program.
Career Closet is an initiative launched this summer offering new and gently used work wear and accessories at extremely affordable prices.
The Economic Development office at City Hall will be accepting donations until October 19.
Any new and/or very gently used work wear is appreciated including:
• Pants, skirts, jeans
• Dress shirts, blouses, polos
• Blazers, cardigans
• Dresses, suits
• Work-appropriate footwear including safety shoes, steel toe, non-slip shoes
• Work-appropriate accessories (jewellery, handbags, belts, etc.)
• New undergarments, socks, toiletries, personal care products, cosmetics
Individuals who access the Career Closet will be given one-on-one appointments with an Employment Style Consultant who will help them select a work-appropriate outfit and assist with interview preparation and other employment-related advice.
Donated items are sorted and organized by enlisting the help of potential job seekers who are looking for volunteer opportunities.
This added benefit of the Career Closet gives the volunteers some retail-related experience to add to their resume.
“Our labour force in Belleville is one of our greatest economic assets,” said Director of Economic Development Heather Candler. “Belleville Economic Development wants to do all we can to support those getting started in their career, right through to those moving ahead. This program is a terrific community-based approach to support our growing workforce.”
“Our community always pulls together and supports one another,” said Mayor Neil Ellis. “With the growing demand for workers, the city is going to do all it can to support everyone entering our workforce or developing their skillset. City Hall employees, and even council members, will be cleaning out their closets and making our own contributions to this innovative program. We invite the community to join us and drop off any contributions at one of our donation centres.”
META offers tax receipts for monetary donations. For more information, visit: https://metaservices.ca/metas-new-career-closet/.
