Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison says the city needs housing and this is one project that will help alleviate that shortage.
At Thursday’s Planning Advisory Committee, an Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendment to allow a nine-storey, 166-unit apartment building on three lots on Stella Crescent was approved.
The banquet centre known as Heroes Landing, or the former Knights of Columbus Hall at 57 Stella Crescent, will be torn down to make way for the the building and its 249 parking spaces.
The other two lots that will be part of the development, 41 and 47 Stella Crescent, are vacant.
The Official Plan Amendment will allow high density residential use instead of the currently permitted medium density residential use which would only allow for a four-storey building.
