The Wiggle Waggle Walkathon, one of Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward’s signature fundraisers, is adding a Pet Festival to this year’s event.
Now in its ninth year, the walkathon will bring together hundreds of animal lovers and their dogs on October 15 at West Zwick’s Park in Belleville.
It’s a free event running from 10 a.m to 3 p.m.
Marilyn Lawrie, executive director of HSHPE says, “A pet festival seemed like a natural addition to this event.”
The Pet Festival will feature a vendor village, food trucks, dog grooming demos, a dog obstacle area and kid zone.
Also new this year is a Blessing of the Pets, starting at 10 a.m.
This non-denominational ceremony will welcome all pets (appropriately leashed or crated) with words of comfort and blessing, shared with pets and owners, by ordained minister and PEC resident, Jan Mason.
Organizers are expecting up to 200 walkers with dogs to participate in the walkathon, including teams from Belleville Police, Belleville Fire and Emergency Services, CIBC, Quinte Canine and the Rotary Club.
To participate, individual and team walkers register at https://walk.humanesocietyhpe.ca/walkathon-info, collect pledges from friends and family, and join others for a walk at West Zwick’s Park, starting at 11 a.m. Walkers can determine how far they wish to walk and the park has several loops of different distances.
