What began as an investigation into a fire in rural Quinte West has become something more serious.
Quinte West firefighters from the Batawa and North Murray stations were called out shortly before 8 o’clock Wednesday morning to a fire in a small barn at 422 Nichols Road near Wooler.
They arrived to not only find the barn on fire but there were minor fires inside a garage and the attached house.
The fires were under control in an hour and the OPP were called in. In a press release issued Wednesday night, Quinte West OPP say they are conducting a death investigation as human remains were found in the building.
An increased police presence around the property will continue for the immediate future. Also involved in the investigation are the Chief Coroner’s Office and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
No other details have been released but OPP say updates will be provided when available.
