It was a milestone day for Belleville’s Terry Fox Run Sunday.
Not only did the funds raised move the total raised since 1981 past one million dollars, the day’s total was a new record, at over $50,000.
Run organizer Vicki Samaras tells Quinte News that each year she worries that people will have forgotten what the Terry Fox Run is all about but the local community always comes through.
“I really attribute it to Terry Fox and some years it’s one or two groups that fund raise the most and some years it’s a bunch of small donations that adds up to something large. It really changes year to year.”
In the 43 years of the Belleville runs, one million and thirty-seven thousand dollars has been raised for cancer research.
