Prince Edward county is adjusting the occupancy limits for their short-term accommodations.
Under a new amendment to municipal by-laws, the occupancy limit for a room is being changed from two people, to two people plus a child under 10.
The short-term accommodations by-law did not count children when it was first introduced, until it was amended in 2022 in order to address concerns with the fire code and public safety.
Councillor John Hirsch said that not including any additional children in the per room occupancy limit was a mistake with the 2022 amendment.
“I was very pleased that the council was prepared to do that as quickly as we did,” said Councillor Hirsch. “The season isn’t over yet and this may help some people be able to visit The County.”
Municipal staff were also instructed to review the by-law, to see if any further changes should be made before the next tourist season.
