Media was not welcome Monday night as members of Branch 99 of the Royal Canadian Legion Belleville voted on whether or not to move to a new location.
Members from the president on down would not speak to our reporter following the meeting but one member who wishes to remain anonymous tells Quinte News members who were present voted 65 to five in favour of moving to the now vacant former Belleville and District Shrine Club building on Highland Avenue.
The City of Belleville, which owns the current Legion building, has given the organization until the end of the year to find a new location.
Legion President Shirley Stewart told Quinte News any decision must be approved by Ontario Command and details of any agreement won’t be released until approval is given.
Realtor Jamie Troke has listed the former Shriners building for lease at $5,000 a month but there are unconfirmed reports that the Legion has been offered a lease free of charge.
