A replacement is coming for the Belleville Transit bus almost burned beyond recognition in July.
Monday, Belleville council approved the purchase of a demo 2021 twelve-metre transit bus for a little over $591,000.
There will be other costs to install fare boxes and exterior wraps, among other items.
Belleville Transit’s insurance is paying $818,500 toward the replacement cost. Any leftover money will go into a reserve account.
On the afternoon of July 17/23 the rear of a transit bus burst into flames in the area of Avondale Road.
The driver quickly ushered the passengers off the bus while calling the fire department. No one was injured but the bus was a total loss.
