The Belleville Salvation Army’s controversial expansion to its church building on Bridge Street West is well underway.
When finished there will be larger kitchen and dining rooms, storage facilities, and food and clothing services for residents in need.
At Monday’s council meeting Councillor Garnet Thompson said many residents in the west end neighbourhood have visited the church asking questions about the development and the staff is more than happy to answer them.
“and they will hopefully put everybody’s mind to ease. What they’re proposing is fantastic. People just need to get the answers.”
Many residents living around the church are worried about noise and vandalism problems when the church offers its free meal programs as it did at its former location in the Downtown District.
The expansion should be complete by spring of next year.
