The Ontario Nurses Association says it was denied requests for public health nurses and a county resident to speak to city and county council members.
This includes Hastings County, Prince Edward County and the City of Belleville.
According to the nurses, the clerks with each municipality cited ongoing collective bargaining talks as a reason to deny the requests to address council members.
“There is no ongoing collective bargaining happening between the board of health and ONA,” said ONA President Erin Ariss, RN, in a statement.
“Negotiations ceased when the board of health failed to address the need to come to the bargaining table with a respectful and fair wage increase for nurses and rejected an extraordinary offer from the nurses to go to arbitration and avoid a strike.”
ONA is calling on the councils to reverse the decision.
Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is holding a media briefing on Monday to give their update regarding the strike.
