A ground-breaking ceremony took place on Monday to mark the beginning of the Murney Street and Henry Street reconstruction project.
The project also includes the rehabilitation of Murney Street from Catharine Street to Moira Street West and Henry Street from Murney Street to Cedar Street.
Replacement of the cast-iron watermain that was installed in 1911, as well as the replacement of sanitary sewers and corresponding services for each, is also part of the project.
New storm and sanitary will be separate, as opposed to them previously being combined.
Also added will be a new roadway, curb, gutter and sidewalks on both sides of the street.
The work is being done in two phases by Cobourg Development Services.
Phase 1 will include the north half of Murney Street from Henry Street to Moira Street West as well as Henry Street from Murney Street to Cedar Street.
Phase 2 will consist of the reconstruction of Murney Street from Catharine Street to Henry Street which is set to be completed in 2024.
This project is being funded through the Canada Community-Building Fund.
