The City of Quinte West is applying for millions of dollars to help build more homes.
The feds’ Housing Accelerator Fund, administered by CMHC, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, provides funding to municipalities and counties.
The aim is to increase housing and affordable supply.
This spring, the municipality approved the Quinte West Housing Action Plan and directed staff to apply for the accelerator fund.
They are applying for $3,000,000.
Quinte West Director of Planning and Development Brian Jardine says the support from the fund will assist the city deliver housing initiatives faster, which includes investing in the College Street Affordable Housing Project and getting home owners to create dwelling units in their existing homes.
