Quinte Conservation has issued a water safety statement for the Quinte Watershed due to unusually high amounts of rain.
The first two weeks of August have seen as much rainfall as the entire month gets on average and water levels are higher than normal across many lakes, rivers and streams.
Summer rainfall events have caused beaver dam washouts. Beaver dam breaches are difficult to predict and can cause a sudden release of a large volume of water causing a rapid change in water levels directly upstream and downstream.
Quinte Conservation is not predicting damage to homes and property, but is recommending securing or removing loose items at docks and shorelines, and to be cautious around local waterways.
