A scooter did not make for a very efficient getaway vehicle for an alleged shoplifter in Belleville Thursday evening.
Belleville police were called to a north end business around 6:20 p.m.
Employees observed a female stealing almost $2,400 worth of items.
When staff attempted to stop the woman, she got on a scooter to flee the area.
Staff followed the female and were able to stop her a short distance away and waited until police arrived.
A 36-year-old Belleville woman, was arrested and charged with theft under $5000.
She was released on an undertaking with a court date in September 2023.
