A city councillor says Saturday’s second annual Belleville Caribbean Festival will be “showbiz galore!”
Sean Kelly told council Monday that there could be anywhere from 10 to 500 masked dancers from the Toronto Caribbean Festival parading in the Downtown District, along with vendors, games for the kids, and “lots of food.” At last year’s inaugural event the crowd was so big the food ran out early in the day.
Meanwhile, festival DJ Tefri Harris, a local resident originally from Jamaica, says there will be Caribbean music of all kinds throughout the day.
“Rayzalution will be here and that’s a band that’s been rated number five so basically it’s a real good band to look forward to and also the masquerade parade that’s coming from Toronto, myself and other DJs and other local artists from Belleville will be performing also.”
Harris says the festival will offer people a good chance to learn about the various Caribbean cultures.
The Belleville Caribbean Festival parade begins at noon Saturday and runs from the courthouse area over the Bridge Street bridge and down Front Street ending at Campbell Street. The festival wraps up at 11 p.m.
The event is a collaboration between the city, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Downtown District BIA.
