Members of the Peterborough County OPP are asking for the public’s assistance in providing information related to a theft of a trailer and the plane that was being transported on it.
On August 9, 2023, OPP officers received a call from the owner of the trailer and plane advising it had been stolen sometime between August 6, 2023 at 6 p.m. and August 8, 2023 at 6 p.m. The owner, a resident of Toronto was visiting his family home in Selwyn Township and while there, parked the trailer with the dismantled plane at a general parking area located off Kawartha Park Road. The plane was chained to the trailer which in turn was locked and chained to a tree.
On August 8, 2023, the trailer and plane were noted as missing and the tree that the trailer had been chained to had been knocked over.
The trailer is described as a 2020 homemade trailer, pale yellow in colour with some rust. An Ontario licence plate of T7667K was affixed to the rear of it. The approximate value of the trailer is $1,500.
The plane is described as a 2000 Nordic 2 Ultralight. The aircraft is white with black wings and has an approximate value of $20,000.
Investigators are actively looking for information that may lead to the identification of the suspect(s) involved in this theft. Police urge the public to call in tips on this case, or others, to the Peterborough OPP at 705-742-0401, the non-emergency line (888) 310-1122 or to Crime Stoppers.
