Prince Edward County is offering the public a chance to learn about a new species of insect that can devastate vineyards, orchards, forests, and parks.
The spotted lanternfly has not established itself in Canada yet but exists as close as New York State and is expected to spread into Canada in the not too distant future. Its favoured plant host is the tree-of-heaven, an invasive plant common in southern Ontario.
A detection and reporting workshop on the spotted lanternfly will be held at Bloomfield Town Hall on Thursday August 3 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
